Goal 1: To identify which living Gottesman families are related using traditional genealogy. All variations are welcome to participate, such as Gottesmann, Gotteszman and Gotesman. There are 6,000+ people in the name database of combined Gottesman family trees and records. Use the contact form to submit or request data. Latest project: Gottesman listings by cemetery.
Goal 2: To identify which living Gottesman families are related using genealogical DNA testing. All variations are welcome to participate. We have established 7 unique Gottesman lineages. We are seeking 7 participants in 2009; we have 2 so far this year.
Goal 3: To identify and annotate every Gottesman listed in historical records:
- identify every Gottesman lost in the Holocaust and figure out which family they belong to so they can be properly remembered. Sadly, there are 856 Gottesman and Gotesman records and 347 Gottesmann records in Yad Vashem's Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names. We also have a list of extracted Gottesman families listed in Yad Vashem that were from Munkacs. There are also various mentions in Yizkor Books and 36 Holocaust-Era Records for Gottesman(n) from the Czestochowa-Radomsko Area Research Group (CRARG).
- identify every Gottesman who came to the United States via Ellis Island and match them to a living family so other people can contact that researcher. We have identified 20 of the 156 Gottesman records, 9 of the 228 Gottesmann records, and 0 of the 8 Gotesman records.
- identify every deceased Gottesman in the United States Social Security Death Index, match them to a family, and include a "Post-em" note so other people can contact that researcher. There are currenty notes on about one fourth of the 560 Gottesman records, 6 of the 22 Gottesmann records, and 2 of the 11 Gotesman records.
